OK.. Bought a new 07 Low rider. It had billet fork covers on it already. A year later, I noticed the lt fork leaking. Brought it to my dealer, and they put new seals in it. It was OK, but started leaking again and we noticed that the billet caps had rubbed against the fork scratching it, causing a leak. The billet cap actually had too much chrome on it. I had them put the standard cap on it, and they ended up replacing the slider under warranty. Now, 2 years later (13K) both forks are leaking.
So, they have had 2 chances to fix it. I went to my indie and he said, yep, they are leaking.
Should I go back to my original dealer again? The forks aren't scratched this time. Any one else having trouble? Did HD put the 40 mm forks on other bikes before 07 ? The seals and washers in the 49mm are different from the smaller diameter ones I know. The next dealer is about an hour away from me. Bike completely warrented for 7 years.
Ideas out there??
I have an '07 Street Bob. My left fork seal was replaced 3 times before they finally replaced the fork leg at 14k miles. I've put 15k on it since without any weeping. As a side note; when I first brought it to the service manager's attention he said, "They all do that", implying that it was normal and to live with it. He then brought me inside and showed me another bike on the lift with blown fork seals. I said that if they all do it how come my right fork doesn't. No stupid canned responses after that.
