im new to the forum but i like what ive read so far. just a quick ? whats the weight limit on a motherwell solo rack for a bob? i got a tour pack and want to know if the rack will work before i buy. is it better to use a sissy bar too? i really dont want a bar on the back. thanks.

 

I had the Motherwell rack on my bob. It came with a sticker that said it was rated for 10 pounds. I tried several different bolt/nut combinations to keep the rear of the rack on the fender; no matter what I used it kept coming loose and one time came off on the road completely. I was going to the passenger pillion anyway, so I left it off.

 

The small Motherwell rack has worked well for me.You can't expect the rack to take a lot of twist from heavy weight secured directly to the rack.The trick is to get a bag that rests on the rack and is secured elsewhere.

I recommend the Kurayakin Grantour.It rests on the rack and is secured with four straps that run from d-rings at the top of each corner,two of which run down to the tail lite arms and two to the shock mounts.Get yourself a pair of sporster small saddle bags to lay across the rack under the Grantour and you're good to go. The bags I have are an old pair of Willie and Max soft bags,they wedge perfectly between the shocks and the tail lights,don't even have to be strapped down.

I rode from Mobile to just across the Ohio on Saturday and back on Monday,about fifteen hundred miles, with this set up and it worked perfectly,that lumbar support on the front of the Grantour makes it like riding in an easy chair.

thanks. i have saddle bags already. looking into long trips and it sounds lick my tour bag will work okay with the rack. i also have the passenger pillion. i wonder if the 2-up rack will work better?
