Default 2003 fxd starter

so i have a problem i have taking all the bolts and stuff off the starter but when i pulled it to come out it just wouldnt come. does anyone know what it is locking too? and how to i get it to unlock from there? thanks guys

the outer primary cover has to come off,the pinion gear(the part that bolts to the starter and engages the the ring gear) has a small bolt that secures it to the jackshaft....a manual is needed...

so i got the cover bolts everything off and the cover still wont come off there is a screw on the bottom of the primary cover that i been making kind of loose. and it still wont come off is there something wrong im doing? can someone explain to me what more i got to do thanks its a 2003 fxd

this is the bolt that im looking at is left on the cover i been trying to screw out

This is probably stating the obvious...this is a Torx screw, hence you'll need a Torx bit. Are tightening it more instead of loosening? I've done that before: Righty Tighty, and Lefty Loosey.

That's the drain plug to drain the primary oil. If you haven't already, drain the oil. When the oil is done draining install the plug,not too tight you could crack the case. There is n inspection cover where the shift lever is, it has four screws, two of those screw into the inner case and they are longer. Thats probably your hang up. When the primary goes together after the starter replacement put 26 ozs. of oil in the primary using the inspection cover as the acces point.
