I just did mine last weekend...depending on your pipes, you may not need to remove them...I had access to all the bolts with mine. You'll need to drain the trans fluid...
Oh, and have fun with the giant snap ring under the cover...my snap ring plier tips weren't able to compress the ring...I had to resort to a pair of needle nose pliers that had small tips.

I did it once without draining it by rolling the bike onto two 2x8s, with a rope from the rafters for support. Lost a few drops. If/when I have to change the cable again, I'll drain the trans. Much less hassle and alot less time.

my apes change is turning into a headache....took my forks to dealer today to press seals in and they scratched my lower...went to pick up my cables from another dealer and the forgot to order the idle cable...and its on backorder until next week...and next week is bike week up here....and to add i snapped the bolt in the lower tree that holds fork tonight....ahhh i feel better
