ok, had no snap back when i let go of the throttle so i broke the cables loose and royal purple-ed them(man what a difference when stuffs not sticking!!!) pulled the ac and brackets to get at the throttle cable and return where they attach to the carb so the carb was open to the side. after i got them lubed i knew i had to crank it and get rid of some of that raw fuel that i had been dumping in. when i gave it a little throttle i noticed a cloud come out of the carb-closer look-it was fuel. ever since i got my bike ive had a bog issue out of the hole off idle(have the rpm up a little and it does just fine)and it spits and pops when i let off of it(always kinda liked that). i inspected closer and what it is, is that my main jet is spraying a LOT of fuel into the carb before the slide opens up. when the stream hits the slide, the fuel clouds up and floats off. even though some of this is getting away, the carb is still getting WAY too much fuel at and just off idle. i mean the jet is POURING in fuel if i even touch the gas. i need to lean it out just a little i believe but need some EXPERT guidance. thanks guys.
You are talking about the accelerator pump nozzle. There is no adjustment to these on CV carbs. It is normal for this to spray into the throat of the carb when you roll on the throttle.
agreed. but, when the nozzle sprays, it sprays the slide until the slide gets up. so, the fuel is bouncing back, BAD. when i pulled the ac cover, the ac plate on outside the ac was covered in white powder. the slide operates smoothly, it just appears to not get out of the way fast enough. can i increase the slide speed or reduce the amt. of fuel coming from the nozzle or slow the reaction time of the nozzle spray so the slide has time to go the hell on?
it is a factory 95' bike so im not sure if its the same that came on the 88s. what jets and such should be in there so i will have a point of reference, also i know there is an alum. plug that is drilled on modded carbs, where is this plug located so i can check to see if its been drilled or not. when i bought it, the guy said it was stage 1 this and stage 1 that but i really have no idea how to tell.
also, when i bought it(bout 8,000mi or 8mo ago) it ran like a demon and got 40-42 if i didnt stay in it too hard. now it bogs like hell down low, runs fine up top and only gets bout 30-33mpg even if i baby it.
Sounds like the carb had a dynojet kit put in and the carb is sluggish in responding to the inputs. The DJ kit requires a hole is drilled in the vacuum piston/slide and a larger main jet is installed. If memory serves me the pilot jet is a #45, the main jet is a #190. You may want to replace the vacuum piston, the piston spring and put the original size jets back in. Get two #4 brass washers and put them under the needle. The air/fuel screw is on the backside of the carb, use a mirror to see it. Screw it in till lightly seated then back out 2 1/2 turns. You get the #4 washers at a hardware store.
