I have a 99 Wide Glide and I was wondering if the headset bearings are tightened to more than specs on purpose? If i check the Bearing Adjustment (Fall-Away) per the service manual the bearings are too tight. The reason I question this is I have a friend with a 2000 wide glide which just took his bike to have his headset bearings looked at, and his seem to be overtightened as well.
I know the wide glides have issues with the front end clunk which may be the reason for the bearings being overtightened.
For what it's worth both bikes have been serviced at different locations.
If the bike feels fine going down the road, I would leave it be. If you loosen it, make sure no end play is found or you will get chatter and shorten bearing life.

The bike feels fine going down the road, and with the front end off the ground the front end seems to turn from side to side smooth. I just know based upon the service manual the headset is too tight but didn't know if this was done on purpose to eliminate the front end clunk.
