Do you use same oil in Engine, tranny, and primary?
Dyna Glide ModelsSuper Glide, Super Glide Sport, Super Glide Custom, Dyna Glide Convertible, Super Glide T-Sport, Dyna Glide Police, Dyna Switchback, Low Rider, Street Bob, Fat Bob and Wide Glide.
Nope. I'm running Lucas 20/50 dino in the engine, Lucas dino gear lube in the tranny, and Type F tranny fluid in the primary. Tranny and clutch never worked better!
Dino 20w50 castrol in the engine. 85w140 in the trans and type F in the primary. 2002 FXD. Tried Harleys magical 20w50 in all three holes and the clutch dragged and the trany whined. The motor dosn't seem to give a ****, it clicks, ticks and rattles. When I dissasemble it for the next set of tensioner pads, I'm going to shim the rocker arms like it was a shovel head.
The basic answer is 'yes'. That will "work" in all three holes.
Is it the best for all three holes, each with different lubrication needs? No.
The engine has high heat and bearing loads, the tranny has high surface loads, and the primary has a chain but also the wet clutch.
I've tried HD's Syn3 in all three holes, and it sucks! Sounds like I have marbles in the engine.
Just because it has been posted to death and up and again, just suffice it to say choose a good name brand oil, for the specific mechanical application.

Just for ***** and giggles: I currently use Mobile-1 Vtwin 20/50 in the engine, Redline heavy duty shockproof in the tranny, and B&M Trickshift in the primary.
#1 on the different requirements and I use the following since 2nd change ( Stealer put Syn3 in all 3 holes of my '04 on 1st change and I didn't like how clutch and trans worked / sounded and I changed oils 1 week later):
Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W50 in motor..... Lots of molly, good for engine, not good for clutch.
Mobil 1 4T Racing ..... No molly, good for clutch, not so good for motor.
Mobil 1 Gear oil 75-90.... Gears in transmission like gear oil which is entirely different than engine oil.
Have had zero oil related problems and engine is quiet still with 19-21 psi at idle and 38-40 psi at speed and temp, clutch is still like new and primary chain has never needed adjustment (shoe is not worn at all). Transmission shifts like silk and "N" is very easy to find, clicks right in.
As others have said, you can use the same oil in all three holes but only IF the oil is approved for a wet clutch and carries at least a GL-1 gear oil rating. Thus HD360 should not be used in all three holes, but Syn3 can be. Mobil 1 20w50 V-Twin can also, as well as Amsoil's 20w50 bike oil.
I personally think it's better to use a lubricant in each hole that is more specifically tailored for that particular application. Thus, I use a fully synthetic 75w140 gear oil (MAG1) in the transmission. I use B&M Trick Shift in the primary. And I use Brad Penn 20w50 in the engine.
like said before you can , but i wouldn't . that being said
20w/50 spectro platinum full sythetic in motor
75/90w 6 speed spectro platinum in the tranny
spectro chain case lube in the primary
the motor is quieter (or as quiet as a v-twin can be )
the tranny shifts smoother and is quieter as well when going to 1st (not a loud clunk as before )
the primary is about the same but it had syn3 in it and would probably have been fine if i put it back in , just can't bring myself to give citco any $$$ .
Running Amsoil 20w50 in all three holes for a couple weeks now.
Overall I see no noticeable difference VS separate gear oil.
The bike seems just as happy.
