I have '06 Super Glide and want to install a shift light. Does anyone know what wire to tap into for the tach signal? The service manual doesn't help me much.
It is the 3rd pin in the big ECM connector. I have a project on a website with photos and descriptions from when I put a tachometer on my street bob. Much of it is obsolete, but the part about where to get a tach signal is still good info. The part number for the crimp-on connector you'll need is in there as well.
For some reason, the site that I have the project posted on is down. So I can't get you a link and it wouldn't work anyway. I'm sure it is a temporary thing so I'll come back and post the URL later when the site is back up.
But the 3rd pin on the ECM should work for all of the 2006 Dynas. There *may* be an alternate signal option on some models, but I tried all of the rumored options and only this one worked for me. Good luck and post pictures when you are done!!
Like I mentioned before, I've since rewired it and routed the wires differently, but that project should still have some useful stuff. From step #1, Tools and Materials:
