Shift Light Mod
Hey all,
As one of my winter mods I plan on adding a shift light to my Dyna. I want to do this for a few reasons. One is that I am turning up my rev limiter to 6,500 rpms whenI do my cam later this spring and want to have the light, so that afterI get my dyno tuneI can program the light to fire when my bike is making its max hp. I know a fello member here has used the new MSd digital light and it looks real good. Ive been eyeing an Auto Meter Digital Pro Shift light with an integrated tach. I plan on mounting it on the underside of my dragbars, between the risers. My questions are to those who may know are how are these wired in? I know that a power and ground lead are a must, but how is the signal aquired? On v-rodforums.com a popular mod is the shift light mod and the guys there are creating a pin on their ecm wiring harness and getting a signal from there...unfortunatly for me my install wont be on a v-rod, so im a bit lost at the moment.I currently have inquired to Autometer for detailed specifics and wiring schematic for this light, so i can see if this will be a possible model to use. I like the look and the tach readout would be fun. The light ive shown is a pretty trick piece. The Digital Pro Shift System is available in three performance levels, with standard features including a super-bright LED shift light, a digital rpm display, a three-button user interface for programming, a single-programmable shift point, and 16 levels of brightness adjustment. Another option for me is either thr MSD unit that was used by another member here or the Raptor Shift light. If all goes well and i do order this ill be making a detailed post on how i did the mod. Anyways...if anyone here has experience with wiring a similar light up and is willing to throw in their advice, it would be appreciated.
Best,
MaineHD

While looking into the light i posted originally it specifies that its only for use on 4 cyl and up veichles, i wonder how/if i can still make use of it.
Glide05, yeah, i just checked and thats the same pin location and procedure that the guys on v-rod forums are using...i wasnt sure if the vrod's ecm harness was different than the dyna's but i guess not in that aspect atleast.
