I am looking to buy some wheels for my 08 Street Bob. I found a set online and this is what the guy is telling me "came off a 2006 street bob with a wide glide front end. front wheel is 21/2.15 and rear is 18/5.5. wheels are in very good shape" Does anyone know if those will fit onto my 08 or is the 06 different? Also can I put a 120 tire on that small of a front wheel? If you have any pics of a SB with that size front wheel and tire on it please post pics
If he has a wideglide front end his front axle has a 1" bearing as opposed to your 25mm front bearings. His front tire will be real skinny also (2.15" wheel). Your stock front tire is probably noticeably wider than the one you are thinking about getting (I don't like that skinny look but a lot of people bought their wide glide because of that skinny and larger diameter wheel/tire combo). If you were to get these wheels/tires you would have to change the bearings out on both the front and the rear. You will also have to change the spacer between the bearings. I am not sure about the 120 tire. I know it will fit a rim that is wider than the 2.15 (3 or 3.25 or 3.5).
You will most likely find that wideglide wheel will not fit between your mid glide down tubes. If it does you will need to make new outer wheel spacers and address aligning of the brake rotor/caliper.
And no you should not mount a 120/21 on that 2.15" wide wheel. 90/90 21 is the biggest recomended.
06 dynas had 1" axles. 25mm is very close but not right. Bearings will deffinately need to be changed to 25mm. The inner spacers may work as long as they fit well on the inner race of the bearings and not into the seal.
Thanks guys, very good info... Thought I found a good deal but as usual to good to be true. Guess im just going to have to buy them new$$$$$$$ booooooo...
Does anyone know the best website for buying Performance Machine wheel packages? I know they are high no matter what but im trying to find the best deal. I want wheels tires rotors and pulley.
I don't know about their prices, but check with site sponsors www.coastalmoto.com , www.warehousedirec.com , and I'm not sure if they're still a sponsor but www.hogpro.com gets good reviews. And they don't sell PM wheels, but check out www.pickardusa.com
Sorry to sound like a commercial, but I think it's important to at least give the sponsors a shot at our business.
Find the part number for the PM wheel you want and do a Google search like, "PM XXXXX" or "Performance Machine XXXXXX" and then click the Shopping tab. Organize the list by price and go from there. Usually a good starting point.
You can buy a 21"x3.25" rim from Jireh for about $40, spokes for a Sportster about $80 and either lace it yourself and have it trued for about $50 or have it laced and trued at a local shop on your stock hub for around $100-150. Throw in another $40-$50 for powder coat and you're set. This is what I did with both my wheels. The rear was just disassembled powder coated and reassembled.
I can get you some PM wheels. If you want you can PM me with what you are looking for and I will get you some prices.
Thanks
Jeff
