I am going to put on Forward Controls on my 08 super glide.
I don't know if i should go with the HD kit or an aftermarket kit.
Are some kits better then others? Has any one used a aftermarket kit?
What are the pros and cons?
Do a search on it, you will find a ton of posts covering everything you asked about.
There are as many opinions as there are folks using the different setups.
I myself, and many others have used the '05 HD kit with a seperate/longer connecting rod, with great results.
This allows you to leave the shifter shaft in place if you want,
or put differently you won't have to seperate the primary cases.
I left my mid pegs on for a different place to put my feet, if I wanted to.
That being said I don't like having my feet away from the controls.
The Kuryakyn kit is much better (IMO) and cheaper than the HD kit. I got mine from Eastern Performance on ebay... saved lots of cash over the online retail.
If you're taller than a 33" inseam then get the 3" extension kit.
Unfortunately, unless you find someone that has used several different ones, you can't get a very good report of which one is best and why. All you get is opinions on whatever one somebody has. Like me...I have the HD forwards. I like them fine but I haven't tried any other brand.
Clarification... I ripped the HD forward controls off and put on Kuryakyn.
OK, you got me, I really didn't but I did do a side by side comparison before purchasing my own for an 07 Low. Rode both bikes... The Kuryakyn seemed to be of better material, better chroming and shifted smoother. As I mentioned above... (IMO) in my opinion.
This is why God made black and white.. just different choices for different folks cause not everyone has the same taste.
