That's what the dealer quoted me. Seems a bit much to me. I would think it's mostly changing the oil. What else needs to really be done at 10k?
I just got the bike as certified-used from them with 7k on it, so I have put 3k on it since then. Nothing seems to be out of whack, runs pretty well. I know I should change the oil every 5k, so it's due soon (assuming they put new oil at 7k).
I have basic tools and a service manual, what do you think?
Yeah, I just nervous about things like inspecting belt deflection, etc. I don't have the specialized tools for stuff like that, just your basic assortment of wrenches and such. Can it be done with normal tools, in the driveway, or do you really need elaborate tools and a lift?
Changing the oil is no problem, I did that all the time on my old Sporty, although I just used synthetic Castrol 20w-50, folks on the board told me that was as good as the liquid gold HD sells.
I made a lift from some scrap wood I had in the garage and I have had to buy some tools but still cheaper than a dealer service plus I got to buy tools.
Tampa Harley quoted me $529 for my 10,000 mile. Just do it yourself. You only need a filter wrench, torx bits and then only regular tools. You can get those at AutoZone for a cheap price. Harley over tightened my belt, adjusted my clutch wrong. They replaced a motor mount on my 06 leaving the motor touching the frame. They put my hand brake back togeather wrong and my brake light stayed on. I don't pay them anymore, I do it myself. They only get warranty work. Of course they still get my chrome money when I am in the mood. Ride safe.
Going on 13k on my bike and it hasnt seen the dealer since I bought it.
If you have a service manual it lists all the things you should do at what intervals.
10k has more checks than some others but its still easy.
+1 my bike has never been back to the dealer since I rode out on it. I t all depends how confidant you are about working on it. To seriously to your own service it's gonna take a few tools,a service manual and some sort of lift. Those items will pay for themselves by your second service.
I made them toss in the first service and they charge 310.00. I just wanted that first one on them. 5000 miles after that. HD are mostly a simple machine do the work yourself its fun and much cheaper and you know the work was done correctly get the manual.
