V&H Shortshots - give me your positives and negatives...
Anyone have or used to have Vance and Hines Shortshots? I have a 06 WG with V&H slipons a stage 1 and a fuelpak. I'd like to put some new pipes on mine and was wondering what you all thought about the short shots... How is the performance? That's what i am most concerned about... Thanks!
Nothing to brag about performance wise. I had them on my Softy for awhile and they didn't sound quite right to my ear. I ended up getting some Hooker Troublemakers cause they were going out of the MC pipe biz and were selling them for 60% off. Otherwise I probably would have gone with one the D&D 2-1 pipes. I probably will eventually once I get some miles out of these Hookers. (Somehow that didn't sound right ...)
You can check with one of the site sponsors: Dr. V-Twin. I hear he has some good prices on pipes.
Personally I like the sound and the looks of the shortshots. Good price too. They will never compete with a good 2-1 as far as performance. I'm in the process of rebuilding a 2000 FXD and trying to keep my investment fairly low while still building a fun ride. I'm leaning towards the staggered shortshots for it.
The price is very good and they give the bike the "hotrod" look. The sound is good although its a little deeper with the "quiet" baffles. I think the longer V&H Bigshots sound better having the extra length, giving a deeper bass tone. Performance will not be top of the pile. It all depends what your looking for in a set of pipes.
love mine, love the hotrod look, exactly what I was after, I put the quiet baffles in after a while and they are good but the fibreglass will gradually burn out... I'll just wrap them again, when I fitted my quiet baffles I modded the heat shields so I don't have to take them off to get at the screws that secure the baffles
I've had 'em on a previous ride and didn't really care for them. I like the looks and they are loud, but like many V&H pipes, they have a raspy sound I don't care for. YMMV. If you like the sound and looks, I would go for it.
