Tank swap confusion
Would someone mind clearing this up for me? I've searched and read until I'm blue in the face about tank swaps. I have a '99 FXDX. (Carbed of course) What are my options for bolt-on tank swaps, years and models? I have a nasty dent in the left side of my tank and would like to replace it eventually. I'm also curious about the possibility of switching to a tank mounted speedo, which years/models? If I've read right, I can even use tanks meant for FI if I remove the pump and swap to the pingel petcock/valve. Is this correct? I've read plenty about this subject, but a lot of info is contradictory and 99% of it is for much newer/FI/different model bikes. Thanks for your help.

1997-2003 FXD and FXDX are direct swaps. Just got a 99 FXDX Tank for the 00 FXD I am rebuilding. Don't have the part number here at home. Looked through the Dyna parts manuals to see which would work without any mods.

i have an 01 fxdxt and bought a 03 low rider tank. that way i will be able to mount the guages on the tank. i had looked at every after market supplier etc and couldn't find anything to fit or i liked. it is going to be expensive swap but i have been assured that everything is compatible. also looked at my service manual and the guages will mount right in.
