Have 1000 miles on my 09 FB and noticed oil in the driveway today. Looks like a gasket is leaking. Also noticed a little wetness around the derby cover. Just had it in a week ago for the 1000 service. Not to happy. Pain in the a@@ that i have to take it in.
1. put a 1x4" piece of wood under the jiffy so the bike stands almost vertical
2. remove the derby Put a piece of tape under the top hole
3. see if the orange ring gasket is off center or torn or deformed. If so take it back to the dealer and make them give you a new one.
4. check to see if you have lost any oil as the clutch basket should just be touching the oil level. If low add until it comes up to the basket bottom.
5. replace gasket and reinstall derby with the top hole in it's original position.
6. Tighten screws in a star pattern starting with the top one. First snug them then torque to 100 INCH lbs (torx T-27 bit)
Ride 20 minutes and check for leaks.
Note: The derby cover will sometimes form to the shape of the case which is why you index it with the piece of tape. I took a scribe and drew an arrow to the top hole on the inside of mine so I don't forget the correct position. If the tech didn't index it then that could be a reason why it might be leaking. Which means you will have to take it off and rotate it one hole in one direction until it doesn't leak and thereby find the original fitment.
Thanks DLI.... I have the Willie G Derby so the tech should have it in the right location. Maybe it just didnt seal properly. Im more concerned about the oil. Ive put 250 miles on since the service and just now notice the oil today. I will take to the dealership tomorrow and see what they think.
Check to see if they put the correct gasket on it. IIRC the only derby cover that takes the orange oring gasket is the stock one. It has an indentation for it. All the other ones take the old style gasket. Make sure they didn't install the wrong one.

+1 know it sounds stupid but they mat have done it If not make them check fluid and new gasket. Whole thing should not take more than 20 min.
Granted I snug down the screws on the derby cover by feel but if the screws were properly torqued to the required specs then the possibility of warping the cover is greatly reduced. Whenever I pull the derby cover I also wipe/clean all mating surfaces and wipe off the excess oil off the quad ring (02 dyna) eliminate the chance of residual oil from leaking out. Same thing with oil changes, I use a non petroleum based degreaser to wash the area free of oil.
problem solved....they didnt tighten the transmission fill plug. Was able to take a closer look at it the other day and saw that it was loose.....very loose. It doesnt give me much confidence in the dealership. Funny thing it I bought my bike there because if there good reputation. I definatly will be calling them on Monday to voice my concerns.
