Default Advice on progressive shocks

I have an 2008 Fat Bob that I just had a custom rear fender installed on. Now I would like to lower the rear just a little.(no more than an inch). Someone told me to look at progressive shocks. can you guys give me a little advice on these shocks. How much is ride affected? Any problems w/ dragging pipes on sharp turns etc.......? Where is the best place to purchase and which model # is best? Anyone recommemd any other shock? Also, I Was wanting to get black shocks to go w/ theme of my bike. Sorry 4 all the questions but just didn't want to waste money on shocks that i am not happy with.

I like the way that the 412 progressive shocks ride over stock, I tried an inch shorter on mt 06 S.B. and the upper belt guard hit the fender when riding a passenger. Be sure to check and make sure that you can put the shorter shocks on.

Depends on what you want to spend and longevity. I would not recommend the 412 and not big on the 440, but the 418 is a good shock. That said, Check out

Thanks guys for your help.

Just wondering would that be the best way to lower the rear of my bike by just getting shorter shocks? Or is there another way i can go to save ride and handling. I know I will sacrifice a little ride and handling because the bike is 1" closer to the ground. just trying to weight out all my options before spending $$$$$$. Thanks.

I have the heavy duty Progressive 412s 11", that's one inch lower than stock Street Bob shocks and the ride is harsh. In my opinion pretty much any shock much below 12" is going to ride rough. At 11" I'm pretty sure you have no more than about 1 1/2" of suspension travel so no matter how good the shock is it's going to ride pretty rough. Now if your stock shock is more than 12" you could lower it to around 11 1/2 to 12 and it would still ride pretty good.

don't waste money on progressives unless you want you bike to ride like a school bus.

I swapped my stock shocks out for some 1 inch lower non heavy duty Progressive ones. The stock shocks rode fine to me but I just wanted some shorter ones. Anyways the Progressive shocks rode much rougher until I dropped some weight. I am now down 82 pounds and weighing 216 and the feel of the shocks have greatly improved. I think about 220 pounds is probably their limit.

Well here's the tip, call up a surgical weight loss doctor and set up an appointment. Make sure your insurance covers it though.
