I have an 09 Super Glide with SE slip ons. I ordered the cycle shack baffles to replace the SE ones with but I am haveing a hell of a time removing the old baffles. I searched the forums and tried all the methods I found except the use of a slide hammer which I dont have at the momment. I did find 1 post that said the baffles may be tack welded in. Can anyone verify this?
Most of the posts said with a little persuation the baffles came out. Ive tried vice grips and tapped with a hammer to try and pull them out. I took the slip ons off and used a piece of wood then pipe and finally a piece of flat bar but the baffle looks like it moved maybe 1/8th of an inch.
HELP.
Take the mufflers wright off and put to a vise, using the bottom bracket to hold them in the vise. Use heat and penatrating fluild and wise grips to hold onto the end of the baffle and hit the grips to get the baffles out. Use lots of heat, heat all around the muf., with a torch and use lots pen., fluild. Just remember too too much heat will wreck the chrome, turn the pipe blue. Took my out and installed the new baffles and took some 2-3 hours to do. The dif., between the SE and new baffles to look at is not a lot, but the new ones are much louder. One could mod., the stock baffle as not much diff., between the two. Once you see the two side by side you will see and one could mod the stock SE baffles and I do believe would be the better sounding one as the stock SE baffle ends where the muffler ends and the new baf, ends inside the muf., therefore that will change the sound a lot as the sound exits. The new baffles sound a little tin-e at times to me maybe because where the new baf., ends verses the old one. I will be changing[mod] my stock SE baffles to be pretty much the same as the new ones for the SE mufflers and put them back in. Have a great week-end now eh.
Thanks Diesel2.
I picked up a slap hammer from my brothers shop but all the hooks were too big. Tomorrow morning he will be at his shop for a few hours so I will be there since he has just about anything I may need.
What seems like an easy project always turns to sh*t for me.
Got to the shop at 8 am and by 8:15 we were done. Took a piece of round solid bar stuck it in the front side of the muffler and tapped it on the ground a few times. baffle popped right out. I went home and put the new baffles in and the first time I started it up my wife came out and asked whos bike was that. It definatly is loader than the original baffles.
