Default Tell me about your WG!

(This is a copy of another post in the Softy section, but kind of applies here too with additional ?'s, hope you don't mind..)

I have been lurking these forums, readin up on everything I can, trying to decide on my next ride. While whatever I get needs to look good, it also needs to be comfortable. I ride everyday possible- although most days my current trip to work is about 15 minutes- tops (great on bad days or in the cage- horrible when on the bike!)

But what bout the ride? I see people replacing/altering seats and risers, but that is common with any bike. Easy enough in stop/go city traffic? It looks plenty easy to set up to stretch out with some nice forwards.

Yes, I realize this is a personal thing- I am not asking you to sell me on it, just looking for other things I have or haven't thought about!

Thanks in advance!

Have an 04 WG...bought new in June of 04. Have 14,000 miles on it now. I love it. Only thing I don't like is the front end is a little loose on the highway (fixed with a fork brace). All my friends have Ultra's......I wouldn't give up my WG for anything.

It rides nice on the highway, slightly sporty feel, but put a passenger on the back and it rides like a Town Car.

I have an 06 WG. I find it very comfortable. The stock seat and suspension work well. Above 65mph if it is windy the positioning of the Apes , etc, can make it less comfortable than more conventional riding positions, but for 15 minutes it woudl be fine. If i was going to do a few hours on the highway regularly i might put on a detachable windshield

06 WG. Best bike I've ever had. I always wanted higher bars, and they are much more comfortable to me. I ride 45 miles each way to work every day. The cages want to go 80. This bike is smooth at any speed. Yes it can get windy. I'm getting used to it, and have such a blast anyway, I hardly notice. Tried both mid and tall quick release windshields. The mid was to short, and the tall gave my head whiplash. Still looking. Also, yes the long forks and skinny tire gives a little wobble at higher speeds, but I didn't want an ordinary bike.

6 gears, easy clutch, instant starting anytime; who could ask for more. Leather bag on the back, and I'm ready to go anywhere.

Hey, eleutheros, what rack do you have on your FXDWG and what Bag? I was wanting to the exact same setup, so I could have some space to carry stuff, but I don't want saddlebags? rap87@***.net for any pictures or just post em here. Thanks bro.

I was on the fence between Deuce and Low Rider. Sit on them, they are very different.
I'm 6'2" and the Deuce felt cramped. Mid mount pegs are worthless on mine but you
wouldn't have that problem on the WG. I think one or the other will feel better to you.
That long tank on the Deuce makes you feel like your sitting on a surfboard.

I have ridden both softails and dynas from previous years. The last time I rode a softail was a deuce that I had for a week. As was mentioned, the long tank made the ride very uncomfortable for me on long rides. I spent 7 hours one day on it, and after that day, I swore I would never ride one again. Looks are cool, but comfort was terrible (I am 5'10). The bike also vibrated terrible between 55 and 65. On either side of it, it was smooth though. Now to the dynas...I have ridden both low riders and more extensively wide glides. The wide glide was always my favorite. I have also ridden a few touring bikes, and they have their plusses and minusses too. My decision this year was to buy the new wide glide, due to the improved frame, motor, tranny and front end. After about 2,000 miles, I am even more impressed with this model. The bars are more comfortable than previous years and the entire bike is more balanced and feels more stout. The bike just plain fits me. I have added a touring seat, but only for more comfort for the wife. I also added the quick release shield for the longer rides. The new shield this year does affect handling a bit at 65+, but you get used to it. Without it though, you take all the wind on your chest (due to the upright riding position), and it makes for a long day, trust me! I changed the pegs as well, with heel rests. Between the new seat and pegs, It is a bike you can ride comfortably all day. I hope this helps in your decision. Any dealer should let you test ride the bikes you are interested to help you decide. Also renting one or two for a day lets you get a better feel for what you like. Money well spent, if a bad decision is avoided. Dealers will ususlly credit all or part of the rental (within 30 days of purchase) towards your bike. Good luck!

from all your other forum posts it seems you are intersted in all the models still or do you have it narrowed down now to the wideglide or deuche? You definetly need to ride both the bikes casue they have many differences, first sit on one that fits your body as they will save you some on modes. Then take em both for a cruise and I am sure you will find they dont ride similiar at all so you should be able to decide which one you like and then go for it. So if you buy a bike and a year or 2 down the road you want another model big deal, There HD's so the value is always good. Dyna's are great bikes, I own 2 of them and HD doesn't have a better model for me.

Good luck with your decision making but some times to much info is a bad thing, walk in and find the bike that is calling your name, You will hear it, we all do, and you will be glad you did mojo

We love our 06 WG! The only thing I hated on it as far as comfort goes was the stock seat. Had a custom Danny Grey seat made and it is perfect!!!
