Default RE: question for Dyna owners,......

I have found that most people have a general "lack" of knowledge when it comes to bikes. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to explain to the guy at the parts counter that a lot of 05 DYNA parts will not fit 06 DYNA bikes. He tried to explain that the catalog is just not updated. I tried to explain to him that the swingarm, transmission, frame, engine etc are redesigned hence different. Do any parts guys read about their very own products? No dude, those saddle bag supports for an 05 will not fit on my bike with a detachable backrest for the last freakin' time!

I pulled up beside a guy on a 1200 sportster......I've gotta admit at first glance I thought he was on a dyna too.
LOL - I'm gonna start going up to people on Sportsters and tell them "nice super glide!"

Can't say I've ever heard that one before.... Just goes to show you that there are a lot of people riding Harleys these days who don't have a clue. LOL! Of course, from the front, it's hard to tell anyway, since the Dyna Superglides and Convertibles have Sportster front ends. Even the wideglides are basically XL front ends with wider trees.

I guess I really wouldn't care if they did. It's my bike, not theirs, and I don't ride it to impress anyone. I don't care if they call it a Honda... it just demostrates their ignorance. Besides, I like Sportsters. They are as much a Harley as the big twins are. I've owned plenty of them and still have one.

Some people with a little knowledge get confused by the external shocks. But at least that proves they know something. I remember when I was real young and every bike we would pass I would say "there's a Harley" or "is that a Harley." My grandad who owned more than his share would take a quick glance and call it what brand it really was. As a kid I wondered how in the heck he could tell the difference. Now it's easy, but back then I was amazed. Back in April when I got my shiny blue Street Bob I took it over to his house (he's about 75 now) and he sat and stared at it the whole time I was there visiting. My grandma talked about other things, and he just sat there with a grin, being taken back in time.

Nope. My Bob has never been mistaken for a Sportster. Different style of tank, for one thing.

It happens.
I went on a ride with a group including an old neighbor who has Heritage softtail and when we had stopped to get a bite he asked me if it had a 883 or 1200? The look on his face when I said 1450 was great.[sm=yikesomg.gif] It was then he realized I had a dyna and he then started checking it out closer when we came out.
Just correct them and move on, don't take it personally.

Although they changed that with the '06. The FXD and FXDC now have a wider fork, and the '06 dyna frame is almost two inches longer than the '05 dyna frame.

to be honest, i somtimes have a job id ing the various models. if im not too sure of the ecact model, i will slowly sneak up to the bike and have a sly look at the writing on the air cleaner. I can sound knowledgable then when i can tell the wife.," oh yes, thats a fat boy "etc. I suppose i will get better as time goes by. I must say though, some of these metric cruisers can look a hell of a lot like a harley as they go by.
