...Of course, from the front, it's hard to tell anyway, since the Dyna Superglides and Convertibles have Sportster front ends....
Although they changed that with the '06. The FXD and FXDC now have a wider fork, and the '06 dyna frame is almost two inches longer than the '05 dyna frame.

Yes, I noticed that. Don't really care for the changes, though. I like the old machines with the narrow glide frontends. They were much better for handling the twisties! They worked for several decades and that's good enough for me! Also, with all the Jap-made Harley copies out there, it really is getting difficult to tell the difference from a distance. It sucks!
I think my next ride will be a Confederate, if I win the lottery, that is..... LOL! I'll still keep my old Hawgs and my Brit iron no matter what. I can fix them anywhere they happen to break down. Even pulled the jugs on the side of the highway once to temp fix a leaky base gasket. No biggie. It's just too bad the most HD riders aren't mechanics anymore (some can't even change their oil.... sad, sad, sad). When I started riding, you had to be a mechanic to ride one, or you'd be stuck out in the boonies a lot. LOL!
times move on. its quite difficult to do work on a lot of bits on the newer bikes. the manufacturers like their vehicles to be in the dealerships being serviced instead of being worked on at home.
When I first got my Super GLide I got that from some of the guys at work. I didn't get mad or nothing, just explained it was a Super Glide with 1450 cc motor. I had a Sportster before I traded it in on the SG and I will admit from the front view straight on it is pretty hard to tell the difference between the two. The best way for me to tell quickly is the final drive being on the left side for a big twin and on the right for a Sporty.
I work while all types of people and the ones that know bikes can tell as soon as I show them a pic or as soon as they see it. The others when I tell them I ride a harley they always ask what kind a Sportster. I think this is because it is more well known among none riders though. when I tell them it is a Superglide sport they give me that look like they know what I'm talking about but I know they really don't (I love that look). I have acctually had more people mistake it for the nighttrain because of the black enigine that the FXDX has. I don't take any of it personal though because this is my first ride and I still have trouble telling some of them apart. Getting better though it is amazing the little differences that you can pick out once you own one and start getting into them.
I've not had anyone ask if it's a Sportster, but it wouldn't bother me if they did. Also, someone said something about the new bikes being hard to work on... man I love working on this bike. The EFI is a snap with a sert... can adjust mixture, timing, etc, and never get my hands dirty. Haven't had to do any major work yet, but I have installed all of my mods and everything has gone smooth. HD's are a lot easier to work on than metrics.
Well,..... I'm not bothered by it at all,...... Because It's all 100% Harley. Honestly,...... This is my first Harley But I am definately glad that I got a Dyna. While I like all Harleys,.....it's more of a love with the Dynas for me. Yeah,...it is also funny when the metric cruiser guys tell me that they like my bike but that they wouldnt spend 20K plus on a Harley like mine. They then tell me that they got a great "such and such brand" bike for 14K. I then break it to them,..........I only paid 13,500 for a full size 1450cc Geniune Harley-Davidson,..... and brand spanking new. And that combined with the fact that there are more aftermarket parts and assy's for Harley's than any other bike in the world is the final thing that brings them back down,.....LOL
Yup, happened to me the other day. My friend was confused by the handlebar mounted speedo and explained the superglide was the only dyna to sport this.
