Default Getting the right sound out of a Fat Bob ...

Hey Harley people ...

I have just bought a Fatbob from Dockgate20 in Southampton, but the stock bike sounds pretty quiet so I booked in for a stage 1 with some slip-on Remus pipes. Their demo bike had this set-up and sounded great. Mine, however, sounds more like a tractor. I have been back to the dealer for advice and they seem to feel that removing the baffles will be the thing to do, I already had tried this and it just sounds like a lounder tractor! This dealer does'nt seem to have much of an after sales ethic and really need some advice. I just want my bike to sound like a Harley ... can anyone advise on what I could do ?

Thanks in advance ...

I went through 3 sets of pipes before getting what I wanted. V&H Big Shots. All others lacked the HD sound.

I also went with the V&H Big Shots with the quiet baffles. I love it! Deep and loud. I get lots of compliments from my friends and co workers on how nice these pipes sound and look. I'm happy.

The FatBob will sound a little different unless you replace the entire exhaust.

When you say sound like a harley do you mean a deep rumble or a sharp blat? Music to ones ears is noise to another.

From sitting around the dealer listening to bikes coming and going I think the V&H are a little harsh, annoying while the rush 2.0 slip-ons give a nice low tone for the most part. Cycle Shacks, I think 2.5s, also sounded good to me.

I have the 2.0 Rush slip-ons and they sure do turn heads, many thumbs up.

Listen to pipes on all big twins you see. Find the look and sound you like, and go with it. Get full exhaust and you will be happy you did.

Have to agree with everything ColdCase said.
I had Rush Slipons on my Fat Bob, and although they sounded pretty good it wasn't quite the HD sound I was used too.
This is because the factory pipes are coming together into one before splitting back into 2.

Now I have V&H Short Shots and even though they sound pretty good to me, they are a little harsh to some people.
But they do give you that classic HD sound.

Your best bet is to just keep your ears open and look at other bikes. When you hear the sound you like, you'll know it.

yeah I had the 2" Rush and they sounded nice & deep. the V&H's sound like a muscle car with glasspacks. like you said. beauty is in they eye of the beholder. that being said, I wasn't smiling till I did the V&H's

Ive got an 09 Fat Bob and I can agree with others on here. I added the V&H Big Radius.. and WOW. Huge difference. I love the deep sound and its not too much to cruise on.. Just finished 300 miles today and she purrrs...

'09 Fat Bob with V&H Big Radius w/ BCT Baffles. I was somewhat happy with just the V&H BR pipes, but once I added the BCT baffles, I was completely satisfied. The stock baffles that came with the V&H made the pipes sound a little bit on the tinny side. The BCT's made it a bit lower of a rumble and a little louder.
