Hello Boyz, Gonna take the Bobber packin this year and gotta mount a sissy bar for something to strap junk to. I ordered the Harley side plate support things (non removable) and don't like the Harley uprights. Anybody out there know what width the bar has gotta be to fit the Street Bob fender? I see in the catalog that the 06 dyna part number is the same for a 84 and up Softail. Appreciate any input to eliminate the guessing game over here. Thanks guys!!
hi gto frank here just got a 06 wide glide 4 weeks ago i also will be taking a few trips myself instaled a sissy bar so the wife dont fall off but also instaled a rear fender rack looks good on the bike and i think this will work good fo carying a nice size bag you know the woman always have to have a bunch of junk that is really not needed have a safe trip when you go.
Well,... I'm not sure of the exact size of the sissy bar itself, but since the H-D part number ends in 04, "52754-04", it would seem that any aftermarket sissybar should fit your upright as long as it will at least fit an 04 model. Now I know the upright sideplate itself is new this year for the 06 models. I'm in the process of finding an affordable "wife kit" as well. So far www.zanottimotor has beat my local dealer for all the stuff I need by well over a hundred bucks. If you dont find an aftermarket one you might check them out.
The rear fender is wider than previous years. So H-D made new side plates that have the same width as the old bike at the top, but new width at the bottom where they bolt to the fenders.
Go to Home Depot, Lowes, or any hardware store. Buy you some 5/8" steel rods, a small piece (scrap) 3" pipe, and some 1/4" steel rods, and build one. Have it welded together and chromed and there ya go!!
Now were talkin Black Oak. Thats exactly what I'm looking for but not quite as tall. Maybe one foot shorter. Any way i can talk you into a close up picture of when it meets the fender?
The sissybar is mounted in the detachable sideplates, the same way a stock HD sissybar would be positioned....its just taller bya a couple...err...few feet. I'll see if i can get a pic took for ya a little closer
