Here's my quick fix..I don't know if this will help anyone else out if their lock screws up, but, I fixed mine. As I said in my first message mine wouldn't lock, you could put your finger under the fork and feel the indent where the pin goes in to lock the fork, mine wouldn't go in so the key wouldn't turn all the way.. Well I got a mirror and a flashlight looked up and found out there is a cavity next to the lock cylinder and it looked like the pin was out of alignment with the fork pin receiver... So I put my screwdriver in the cavity and pushed against the lock cylinder and bingo the pin moved into the indent and my key which was always a pain to lock up and turn worked great... better than it ever did. So It may help you if yours locks up when your on the road to have screwdriver in the tool pouch... I didn't apply a lot of pressure to move the cylinder so it is loose and probaly should be brought in but at least you can make it home...
Thanks wgskee for that info. I took my wife for her first Harley ride and sure enough when I got back the fork lock would not work. Your info helped and I appreciate it. I guess when I get to my 1000 service I will bring it up to the dealer.
Thanks for the fork lock tip WgSkee. It worked. Just got back from the Stealer today after having the 5000 mile service done on my Bob(I ordered a manual(not from them) after seeing their price for the 10,000 mile service - $390.00!) Anyway, I get back and my forks would not lock. Never had this problem before. WTF?! What did they screwup?Tried some of the other suggestions on this board - turn handlebars to the left, push in key, do not push in key and turn handlebars back and forth, WD-40,yadda,yadda,yadda, etc. Took a look underneath and saw the dowel was dropping but was no longer lining up with the indent. Found the slot you mentioned in your post with a mirror and pushed the dowel forward and it worked! Temporary fix until I can stomach another trip to the Stealer to tighten or replace the ignition lock. Might have to go with some aftermarket lock system.
zippo201...Glad I could help Ya... You'd think for the $$$ they charge for our bikes they'd have a better set-up then that... I bought a disc lock..LOL

I just had my bike at the dealer. Informed me they
came up with an upgrade, so they replaced it.
Mike, are you saying that they have a new, redesigned ignition key switch/lock? I had my dealer look at the fork lock problem and they ordered a new lower triple tree. This was months ago. The service guy thought the hole was slightly off on my lower triple tree. I was also needing a new headlight since mine rattled badly from day one. So he ordered the goods and told me it would likely be a couple of weeks.
When the parts showed up, I didn't get around to taking it in for 2 months. I finally took it in at the beginning of this month and when I picked it up, I was informed that they had a service bulletin for realigning the pin. I'm confident it will mess up again. If I know that they have redesigned the part, I'd like to *encourage* mine to mess up again so I get the new part before my warranty is up. This problem is an epidemic and I sure would like a properly built part for the long haul.
Not to say anyone else would ever try to lock their ride without turning the handle bars all the way to the left first.
I have learned over and over again, if I try to lock my ignition with the wheel straight (cause it looks cooler that way),it messes up the pin alignment, and I have to realign the pin with the triple tree hole.
I don't do that anymore.
If you are going to leave your front wheel straightened when you park your Dyna, DON'T lock the ignition.
WgSkee, I agree. Also, you'd think that maybe at the 5000 mile service they would check everything out. I think I'll be getting a disc lock as well and be done with it. I rode to work this morning and it worked fine but I know it'll get jarred back out of alignment. Must be those railway tracks I cross.
