Default Key Hole Problem on 06 Bob

My ignition switch seems to be all jacked up. I can turn the key to the on position, but I cant get it to go onto the "lock" position. I have tried spraying WD-40 in there, but it has made no difference. Do I need a new ignition switch already for my 6K mile Street Bob?

the dowel that falls into place into the bottom tripple tree may not be lined up properly. Wiggle your handlebars back and forth to dry to get the pin to drop. That may help, gook luck.

turn the wheel all the way to the left, then try to lock it.

I had the same problem with my '06 Super Glide. My fork locks would not work at all and the security system did not work right. Took it in and service had to order a new ignition switch from Harley. Took two weeks for it to come in. Got it installed and the fork locks work fine now. My security system still doesn't work right.

Push the key in when you turn it from on to lock.

There is a dowel/pin that drops down as you twist the key to the lock position. Sit on the ground and look up under the fork/frame/tree and watch to see if the dowel/pin that comes down is actually dropping down. Now check to see if it lines up and fits in the hole on your forks. Sorry, not looking at bike right now, trying to remember exactly what I did the other night. Mine doesn't work. This has to be the easiest most obvious thing that the factory should have checked prior to rolling the bike off the assembly line. I mean just have a checklist, ................. fork lock - not operational, "OK, this one's good to go!"

Don't push in on the key, it should turn to lock once the bars are all the way to the left but don't push in on the key while turning it to the lock position. It should be able to be turned with almost no force at all.

I never had trouble locking my forks, but one time I had a hard time getting the key turned off, and this week I had a hard time getting it turned to the start position. Dry Slide lubricant helped. At least I am not the only one having trouble turning the key.

If you did a search you would of found this thread..Steering Lock #@%^*&* Up... - 5/15/2006 12:38:31 PM
I have the same problem as well... The search also has alot of info about this problem... I gave a quick fix incase you where on the road and it happened... It happened again last weekend.. When I shut the bike off from the handle bar switch I reached over to turn the the key to lock the steering and it screwed up again.. I fixed and it worked fine .. So I tried it again while moving the handlebars to the side and turning the key.. and surin' than sh#t... it screwed up the lock... So I guess to keep it working, don't turn the key while moving the handlebars... sounds screwed up and needs to be fixed.. but, you can use the bike until you get it fixed.... Good Luck Man.. CYA.. Skee

KBFXDLI said it right don't force the key at all..
