Well I learned an expensive lesson... Do not follow too close while going down the autobahn in Germany. Seems I got caught on camera following too close. I was doing 158kph (98mph) and was 29 meters behind the car in front of me. I was supposed to be at least 60m away at that speed. Since they just raised the fines I now have to pay a whopping $288 fine. Damn car in front of me should have moved out of the friggin way so I could pass. There goes some play money I was going to use next week while I was off from work riding the Alps.
And after this weekends long ride I found some black residue on my jiffy stand. Looked under the engine and I have a small leak still. Not enough for it to drop while parked though. Also I think the front isolator mount is now trashed. I get heavy vibration when down shifting. So I need to see if the dealership will honor the extended service plan over here. If not I will be changing out the front isolator and just let it leak (since it isn't that bad) until I get back and then take it to a stateside dealer.
Greg,
What part of Germany you're stationed? I live in the centre part of The Netherlands (near Utrecht) and recently made some tours in the Eifel (Nürburgring) and Schwarzwald (B500) with my collegues from Nld Army Staff!

How long are you gonna stay in S? If you want, I can send you the routes (maps & Garmin triplog) we've done in the Schwarzwald and the Vosgues. We stayed for three nights in Müllheim with the friends of the Fr/Ger Brigade. It's real fun over there and not so far from where you are. Planning to do the "Route des Grandes Alpes" & "Route Napoleon" (see Google) next year. Interested to join me? Maybe we could arrange a meet?

I can highly recommend the Route Napoleon - great road, I prefer to run it from Grenoble to the coast rather than the other way round - and if you're there don't forget the Grand Canyon Du Voiron - it's spectacular and the roads are tiny and tight. I spent a day scratching around the "Route..." and the Grand Canyon with some guys on sportbikes and ended up with blisters on my fingers from the front brake and the clutch. Fantastic riding country.
I have two more years here. And yep, if you come through the area we can get together. Give me enough time ahead and I might be able to get time off.
