For those that have aftermarket 2 up seats, which would be the best one for primarily the passenger comfort.
We have already determined that at least 12 inches wide for passenger and prefer no ride height change for operator.
I have my original seat and passenger seat for my 07 FXD. I bought a mustang seat with a passenger seat---both seats for the wife were uncomfortable for the wife on the long trips.
I finally saw an add for what is called the "buttybuddy" and bought this thing for the wife.
Now my wife can outlast me on our long trips to anywhere! I say buy any seat you want and then get your gal this buttybuddy seat which will fit over any passenger seat you own. It will even fit on a bare fender and will have no more than about an inch of increased hight. One of the best things I've done to keep the ol-lady happy on the long runs!
I went with the Harley Pillow-Look seat and I am EXTREMELY satisfied with it. When it was new it was comfortable but after a thousand miles or so it is WAYYYYY comfy for both me and the 'ol Lady. These can be had pretty cheap at Chicago Harley
i just installed the maverick by lapera a couple of weeks ago.
i believe its right at 12" of width for the passenger. i was happy with the stock FXDC seat, my wife was not.
we had our first 100+ mile ride last weekend, and my wife was as happy at the end of the ride as she was at the begining. this was not possible with the stock seat at all. i am comfortable on the maverick as well. i did notice that it is a tad bit more narrow by my thighs than the stock seat was, but i dont feel like my positioning changed much at all. my wife is sitting a couple of inches higher now than she was before though.
asthetically i am real happy with the lapera too. for a much wider/bigger seat, i think its lines flow nicely with the bike. they are also great people to deal with on the phone.
i posted under another thread here somewhere, and put a bunch of pictures of the seat on the bike to cause when i was doing my initial seraches on what seat to get, i didnt see any good pictures of the maverick.
Warning though, your passenger might fall asleep on this one. I got the wide backrest to match.
Funny you should mention that....mine did fall asleep as we were making the last turn into home after an Iron Butt ride, now that's a wake up call when you feel her weight shift like that in the middle of a turn, especially after 22 hours in the saddle. But...she never once mentioned anything about her butt being sore at all.
Oh and I did save her and keep the bike up...not sure how though....
