Finally was able to get my bags done...all together i have about 200 into them. I got a set of FLH saddle bags off ebay ($50). I hunted for the brackets i wanted to use, i ended up finding a local guy. He makes Ghost brackets... so i went into his warehouse and picked up a set. great company to work with! they work with my detachable sissy bar, come on and off in seconds, lock while on the bike, do not jiggle or rattle around. just awesome. I got a sheet of welding steel and cut that to match the inside shape of the wall of the bag, riveted that on the bag for added support so that all the weight was not just on the fiberglass, then i ran the bolts for the brackets, after this was done i silicone glued everything on the inside and out so that it was water tight. I mounted the brackets as high on the bag and far forward as possible to allow the bag to sit low and still look like it belongs. here are the pics!... took about an hour to do total, but looks awesome and better yet, FUNCTIONS awesome! I still want to add some LED's inside the bags so that i have light in there at night, as well as figure out what i am going to do with my plate, with the new bags i could not use the side mount any longer so i had to put on the stock bracket and bend it all the way down. I may go with one of Hogrida's plate brackets, those are realy nice.
Bags: FLH hard bags
Brackets: ghost brackets
Tools needed: allen heads, wrenches, rachets, jig saw, sander, rivet gun, rivets and washers, loc-tite and silicone glue...
*i will take some pictures of the brackets off the bike as well as the supports on the inside but my camera died... it is charging now...
Next step... fairing and stereo fabrication... one step closer to going to Alaska!
here are the pics i did manage to take
and here is the inside (I still need to rino line the inside of the bags and add an LED to give some light in there... but here is the supports before i cover them up with liner)
supports on the inside:
the bracket bolted on the outside... I had to move it very far forward on the bag to get the possition I wanted. That was also another reason for the inner support as well.
what is left on the bike after they are off
