Gave the scissor jack option a try. Sounded like a good idea and LOOKED as though it was gonna work, but didn't. Had the rear wheel completely off the ground and still not enuff clearance to get the damn bolt out. SO, looks like I'm gonna be paying the local stealer $70 to put the sideplates on. THEN, on my way home, I'm gonna stop and have a large 'L' tatooed on my forehead.
Yup the air deal might work...
If you had the wheel off the ground and still not enough clearance, the only other thing to do would be remove the lower shock mounts.Damn that seems like a lot of trouble for rigid side plates.Ive owned 4 harleys, rigid mounts on all without running into that trouble.
Yeh, I've just about had it with this entire project. What should have taken 15-20 minutes has now pissed me off to the point that its almost worth the 70 bucks to just get it over with. Plus its 100+ degrees outside and that kills my motivation even further.

I've been giving this some thought. Sounds easy enuff. My concern is how difficult it might be to get them back ON. In principle, should go back on just as easy, but that almost never happens. Anybody know for sure?
Thread interests me cause sideplates, uprights, and pad are my next project. I just went down and checked my bike. I have a small 5" adjustable wrench and it fits nicely with room to take the bolts out ..... catch is ..... try putting the wrench in from the back of the bike not the side. Just thought this might help ....
I can get an open/box end wrench in there easily enuff, the problem is removing the bolt. It is so long that it won't clear the tire when trying to pull it out of the strut.
