it is definately when I pull the clutch in ... and really only in the lower 2 gears ... especially 1st - it is mostly if I'm going a little too fast for that gear if the clutch were released i.e. I'm coming to a stop and I shift to 1st w/ the clutch pulled in, but I don't intend to release the clutch until I'm ready to pull away from the stop sign ... a roll up to the stop w/ the clutch lever pulled in and the bike in 1st gear if that makes sense.
Sounds more like a clutch basket bearing than anything else.

Just for S & G, try the little test described in the first paragraph of this thread. If it turns out to be your IPB, everything you need to know is in the thread. Good Luck.
Well, the oil isnt a problem.
As far as the noise, if it aint squealing like a stuffed pig, go ahead and ride it. It may get worse, or more likely, it'll keep doing what it is now.
Another thing to keep an eye on would be the chain tensioner. Since you have an 06, it would be nice to know whether you have 39929-06 or 06a installed. The early ones were notorious for tweaking out of shape and ratcheting all the way up and making all sorts of racket when they did. I think Mud posted something about this a couple of years ago.
