Greetings,
Purely my opinion here but....
Having ridden since mid 60's on pretty much everything you could imagine including lots of Harleys, the Wide Glide just fits my "ideal chopper-esque" look with a dash of modern reliability and comfort.
I'm 6'2 and right at 200 pounds and the forward controls just fit.
When the wife is on back, we just jack up the spring preload on the shocks and go for it.
I don't tour on it but do ride it......ALOT!!!!

Yep, I'm with formike56 and danktat.....Wide Glide!!

I've got a brilliant idea for you...
Buy what you can afford, and screw everyones opinion on what you should buy.

I went with a Super Glide, and I'm still waiting to do the bestest upgrade to it.
(put Sportster decals on the tank and add a Sportster air cleaner) Needless to say, I could care less what anyone thinks.

The Low Rider and the Custom have all chrome covers on the engine and primary; the rest have varying levels of black or gray or polished. The FXD is cheapest because it has only gray and polished covers and fewer paint options. The FXDL, '09 or earlier, also has a tach, a big plus in my book, as well as highway bars standard. The earlier Wide Glides were chromed out, the new one is blacked, and looks cool, but with a 34 degree rake, it won't handle as well as the others. The 2010 FXDC Custom finally has a black and chrome engine, making it nearly the equivalent of the Low Rider, minus the tach. The price leaders are the FXD, FXDC and FXDB, all good values for what you get. The new FXDWG is $2500 less than it used to be, but again, has little expensive chrome.

hey all. thanks for the continuing feedback and opinion.s it's all very much appreciative.

1 more QUESTION: what year did the dynas got to 6 speed trans? i know it was relatively recent.

Essentially, i ride the heck outta my bike (10-15k/yr). Town for me is a 60mile round trip. and I ride outta state a few times a year to visit family and stuff. my 750 Shadow Spirit has done me well and still does. on the long hauls on the superslab is where i feel it's biggest limitation. time for somethign bigger, bit I still love the "sportier" slimmer lines. I think the DYNA's just look sweet. look like what a MC should look like.

I'll let someone take the 6 speed introduction; however, I can tell you that from my short experience, at highways speed limits (60-65) around here, the difference between fifth and sixth isn't as big. I'm sure at higher speeds the difference in feel increases......but anyway, just my .02 without knowing much of your riding style.

since most folks won;t allow a demo ride, i may wait until HD has some local demo days that i can actually ride a couple. i also sorta secretly want a STC, but they are way more, and i doubt i'll have the scratch.

basically want somethign 10+ yrs or less, less than 10K on the odo and relatively stock.

my biggest worry about going HD is worrying about theft. no one will steal my Shadow.
Get a support sticker from a 3-piece patch club and put it on your bike...sure reduces the chances of theft!

Go test ride the models you're interested in. We can talk about what you may like or not all day long but until you feel it for yourself....

At 6' 2" you would probably be most comfortable on a Wide Glide. One thing you may want to consider is the kind of riding you plan to do. If you're into layed back cruising you won't beat a Wide Glide. However, if you're into riding the twisties and scraping pegs, you may want to consider a Super Glide or Low Rider. Not that the Wide Glide can't be ridden aggressively, it can. But, the other Dynas do have an advantage in handling due to less rake and the 19" front wheel/slightly wider tire. JMO

Low-rider has a tach, and the best all around tank/bar/display setup. I had one. I'm biased.
