With the engine running and the bike not moving pull the clutch in and put it in gear. If the noise stops then it is the IPB. Doing that will stop the input shaft to the tranny from spinning, and that is the shaft that the IPB rides on. Good luck.

This has been a prevalent issue with the 06 and early 07 Dyna models.

When this issue came to light, Harley created a letter which was included with the sale of new bikes in early 06. Basically, the letter stated dealers would replace this bearing as part of the 15,000 mile scheduled maintenance, and would do it at no cost to the customer.

A couple months later, Harley published a follow up letter stating this bearing replacement was no longer necessary.

Mine went bad two weeks out of warranty, at about 13,000 miles. I obtained a copy of the first letter and presented it to my dealer when I discussed the needed repair with them. They were unfamiliar with the issues or the letter and said they would look into it. They replaced my bearing at not cost. Other owners have not had such good service and had to pay for the repair.

Even with the bearing replaced, failures have occurred again on many bikes. In 07, Harley made the primary casings with dowel pins which were to aid in the proper alignment of the primary and the tranny, relieving stress on the bearing. This seems to have corrected the issues which originally caused the failures. I know a couple guys who had two bearing failures and Harley made repairs by replacing the cases to the newer versions with the dowel pins and at not charge to the customer.

I have copies of the original and follow up letters. If you would like a copy, PM me your e-mail address.
