Good morning all i just found this site and joined. I have a 06 wide glide with 9800 mile and starting to hear a whine in the primary idle in neutral, i was reading an old thread about an inner primary bearing problem, wonder if anybody knows anything more
Thanks
My bearing went about the same milage as what you have. I have a 06 Super Glide. If the noise goes away when you put it in gear while stopped (clutch in, idling) there's a good chance it's the bearing. There was a letter posted here a while back that Harley sent out in early 06 stating they would replace the bearing for free as required. Then there was another letter saying that was no longer needed. Maybe someone will post it again so you have something to take with you to the dealer.
Post #32 contains a copy of the letter stating the dealer will take care of it. I never brought up anything about the retraction letter to my dealer. Worked out because they weren't familiar with either letter.
I have personal experience in this case.Last October,during Biketober Fest,my sons 06
Dyna started humming from primary area, exactly like Blaster said.We went to Daytona HD,mechanic opened primary and the clutch bearing was cooked. We were told that the warranty was out,we didn't know about any recall by HD at this time.Next day we paid $495 and were on the road.Back in Canada I learnt about recall,Canadian dealer said they could do nothing about it. MY son contacted HD Headoffice, they were very cooperative, and exactly yestarday he got cheque from HD Headoffice totalin $495.
Now who said Moco sucks?
when i bought my 06 street bob i had to sign a paper that said i needed bring the bike in at 10000 miles so that they could check the bearing and make sure that it was ok,thay also said that it was just a precaution on a newer style bearing, so my question is,has there been a recall on this bearing or not? I for one have not been notified!!
Maybe new bearings are better, and don't need to be exchanged every 15000 miles,
I have to check it w/the dealer.
Not really, but alignment of the primary is needed to make them last. That's the ticket for a once and for all repair. A simple rip the old one out and throw a new one in will get you down the road another 10 until it fails again.

Ya done good! mine went T-U at 3900. Sounded like an old 60's metal-wheel rollerskate on a sidewalk...rolls to a stop when you pull in the clutch. I was still under warranty. One thing; if you're running any special goo in your primary, tell them or you'll get regular 'ol stuff when they reassemble. Now all you have to look forward to is your stator self-destructing! I opted to extend the warranty on my '06 for that eventuality (and others yet to surface). Good luck.
Thanks Guys; has anybody had one replaced recently? Just wonderin on the cost. Gonna have to get it repaired soon weather starting to get better in Mid Tenn.
