Default Changing bars questions

Hey guys,

I am getting ready to install my 14" Wild Ones I bought from RSA and I have a bunch of questions for those that have a good deal of experience with bars.

(1)

In RSAs sig below you will see his setup for the signals. He has them down on the forks. In Lee's sig below you will see he has the Signals up by the levers. My Fatbob is stock with the signals by the levers.

(a) Since I would like to keep the signal by the levers do I need to run extra wires for them or would they run off the wires already in the bars?
(b) The setup I bought from RSA includes everything in his sig but does not have the holes for the wiring to install the signals up by the levers. His setup is all chrome and my stock is black so I do not want to use them for that reason. Can I drill holes for the wiring out of the bottom of the controls?

(2)

The setup includes wiring cut about 3" long from the bottom of the bars.
(a) Were from my Fatbob stock setup do I cut the wiring to splice into the bars wiring?
(b) Is there enough slack to give myself some breathing room or what? I want to give myself enouph room just in case I want to go back to the stock bars someday.
(c) I dont need to run all new wiring do I?

FYI, I have a high degree of mechanical apptitude along with a bit of soldering skill as well.

There is plenty of extra slack in the neck on the wiring. Once you get it unplugged from the harness just decide the best place to splice into.

With your pre wired bars it is going to be a pain to get the signal wires ran in the bars, if they dont have them already ran in the bars. Your idea of drilling the holes and running the wires can be done but I would suggest moving them to the forks.

It is realy not hard to run wire in these bars at all...droped a chain and pulled..easy. I can just attach the chain..pull..add wires..pull..np

I take it your talking about the harness under the seat/tank area?

Ya under the tank there is a plastic plate in the neck. If you pop that out all the connectors for the wiring is in there. You can unplug them there then pull them out the sides of the neck before you start doing any cutting.

If you have that much room in the bars it may not be bad to add the blinker wires also.

Hello I just finished putting mini apes on my 08 superglide and it is very time cosuming, I'am paticular though, All the wires even the lights had to be extended I used alot of heat shrink tubing added about 6 inches of wire, once you unplug the wiring from under the tank and take off the plug ends it is not that hard. Make sure you make yourself a little digragram on what color wires goes back into the plug ends.

Default speedo and bars

Hey , Nice lookin Dyna. . Is that a Sportster custom set up for the speedo? looks great. Did you have to take the tank all the way off to expose the wires, or just pullit back a little to get to that neck plate. THanks

Relocating them was a heck of a lot easier, and looks better...IMO
