Yeah its loc-tite. For those with forward contols on the Bob. I had to remove the shift lever today (also loc-tited) in order to change my oil filter.
It's totally in the way. I couldn't get the rachet in place. The damn thing was tight as hell from the factory. It's hand tight now.

Got to heat it a little......not much. OR you can put a few drops of loctite on it to loosen it up if you can see the threads.

I tore mine all to hell taking it off. Eventually I just pulled the rubber part off and took some vice grips to the metal part after holding a blow dryer on it for about 10 minutes.

As I ponder the matter, it occurs to me that the existing shifter peg is just fine.

I don't know what I was thinking!!!!

This method worked the best for me. I took the shift lever off the bike and put the shift peg, with rubber on, in the vice teeth and cranked the vice while trying to turn the lever back and forth until the peg came loose. Once removed you could see the red Loctite on the peg threads.
Thanks to the original poster, Tb 2377.

I use the HD oil filter removal tool and a 10 inch long extension with the ratchet to get around the shifter...piece of cake...except for the spillage.

Sometimes things strip or break causing more work. It happens. All you can do is suck it up, buy the tools, and get good at removing damaged fasteners.

Digging up this thread to ask a question.

I'm also trying to remove the shifter peg as it bent when the bike went down. I can successfully remove the screw holding it to the shaft and can work it to nearly half way off the shaft but then it just wont come off. I dont see any loctite on the shaft either. I have wiggled it and used vice grips but it just wont come off the end and I feel more wiggling will strip the shaft.

What do I do? Keep going at it hoping the shaft dosent strip? I want to remove the primary case so I can tighten the clutch bolt inside and check my tensioners and also install anew peg or bend the existing one back straight.
