I've had my 2009 FXD Super Glide for about a month and I am really missing having a tachometer.
This is the model with a handlebar mounted silver faced speedometer. I have looked all over the internet and forums but haven't found anything that looks suitable for this model bike.
You could change your speedo mount to one of the old style mounts that holds the 2 4 inch gauges. Then get a tach from a 09 LR so it will match your speedo.
I went with a black speedway instruments digital micro tach. I installed it right behind the brake reservoir as they show on their web site. Great product and very easy to install, love it.
I put the combo unit on mine from HD 74735-09 It is just plug and play
and does everything the stock gauge does. Only down side is it runs 499.00 unless you got some kind of discount from your dealer. I was able to save a 100.00 when I got mine.

Looks like a good set-up. Somehow I missed the fact that this will fit into a 4" handlebar mount.

Does it come with instructions on installing it or did you not need any?
Yes it comes with instructions all Harley stuff comes with instructions.
They tell you how to change the colors and set it up and so forth. But it's simple. Installing is just remove the screws in the back unplug and replug and screw back in.
