TexasFXD,
The Speedway micro digital tach is bright enough that it can be seen in direct sunlight. It's pretty bright at night but it's not really a problem since the color is red (red does not destroy your night vision like white light does) and it's not directly in your field of vision.
I purchased the Deutsch connector option and soldered it to the tach wires. This makes for a super quick install as all you do is stick the tach in place with the supplied double sided tape, run the wires under the tank and across to the electrical caddy, and plug it into the data link connector. That one connector provides the data signal, power, and ground. It's a no brainer and installation takes about 30 minutes.
Enjoy.
@ columbia whaler: very nice Speedo meter and leds!! is this 1 piece with the handlebar? And what brand is this? I have a Super Glide and wanted to install a gastank with a console but this is also a very nice option.
Greetings,

kngobra: You are right, that is really the way to go. Looks great but I still have trouble turning loose of 500 bucks.
whaler: Thanks for the info. After weighing all my options I decided to go for the MicroTach. It is sitting here on my desk waiting for the Deutsch connector to arrive. Should be able to install this weekend.
You won't be happy till you spend the money and get this setup!!
Hi!! I have a 2009 FXD and have been reading this post - I really like the new tank idea in order to get a tach. - can you expand on what it is and what you needed to do.
I went with a black speedway instruments digital micro tach. I installed it right behind the brake reservoir as they show on their web site. Great product and very easy to install, love it.
According to the web site, the unit is currently out of production. Says to check back for product updates. Too bad, it looks like something that would meet my needs.
