Default Wider tire on FXD?

Riding a 2009 FXD. Has anyone tried a wider front tire? I don't know where I can look up what the stock wheel can take. Seems like there's enough fender clearance for a 110, maybe a 120, but I don't know how it would affect the brake/rotor.

Some of the tyre brands publish the size of rims their tyres will fit, certainly Avon do. So check your favourite brand's website

Ive been wondering the same thing.

Would fitting a 110 tire mean the profile was lower?

Anyone have pics of a 110 or 120 front tire on an FXD?

Cheers.

Fitting the rim is one thing, clearing the fender is another. Dont worry about the brake and rotor, your not adding that much unsprung weight as long as your squeezing something inside the stock front fender

Thanks Zoopman, wondering if you can educate this Squid about these numbers from the web site you listed:
Stock
19x2.5
100/90-19
Max
21x3.5
120/70-21

I know the 100 and 120 are the width in cm, but I don't know what the other numbers mean.

Perhaps I can chip in here, as I'm passing by!

19x2.5 means 19 inch diameter rim, 2.5 inch wide. 100/90 means a 100mm wide tyre (4 inches as near as dammit) with 90% profile. This is your stock size rim and tyre.

The maximum size rim you can fit is 21 inch, 3.5 inch wide, with a 120mm 70% profile tyre.

I don't think this answers your original question! Did you want to know the widest tyre you can fit on your current 19" rim? Looking at Avon's website, they do a 110/90 Venom that will fit, which is actually 119mm wide when fitted. Also a 110/80 Azaro-ST which is 109mm wide fitted. They make a 120/70 Cobra, but that requires a minimum 3" wide rim and is 123mm wide fitted. A Venom looks the best of those.

You could look at other brand websites to see if they have anything you fancy. A word about fitted widths, which is that in my modest experience they can vary several mms from what is stated!

Hope that helps a little.

grbrown is right! I will add that when looking on the site that I refered you to--scroll down a little farther and you will see the tire fitment chart for wheel rim width. If you look at the 19 inch front you will see that according to the chart you can run a 110/90-19 tire on a 2.15 to 3.00 (wide) 19 inch wheel rim. If you can check out other motorcycle sites on the internet --they can explain the tire fitment thing better then I can as I still get confused about it. The first number is the width (100) second number is aspect ratio (90) 3rd number should be diameter of wheel rim (19). Hope some of this helps.

Traded several e-mails with Dunlop. They don't recommend going wider, and they cited matching a wider front tire with the rear, tread pattern, etc.

I think that while I could go wider, neither HD or Dunlop will recommend anything due to liability issues.

Appreciate all the feedback on this.
