like Don said... I don't even think about 6th until I can stay above 70..... on the Sturgis trip, had to pass folks and so fully loaded for touring... passing at 105 - no problem. Cruizing easy at 85-90... no sweat.... you're a long way from hurting anything at 70
your shift points are very conservative and no problem at all. Easy 5 extra mph for 2nd and 3rd and 10 mph for 4th and 5th (actually 5th would have more range than that without a problem).
shrini23 is quoting the shift points from the owner's manual. I'm a brand new Harley rider and I've been trying to abide by those shift points as well. I feel like I'm shifting too early and that the engine is lugging a bit. I'm going to just start shifting when it feels right and not worry about it. Thanks for the advice.
