Default How Do I take this Headlight Apart?

got a headlight from a MC swapmeet.. wired it up.. all works well.. but wanted to change the bulb to a xenon bulb.. tried to take it apart but I can't figure it out.

took all the set screws out on the bottom (see pic) but can't seem to get the bezel out... u can see my thumb on the bezel... the chrome is all one piece... any ideas how to get the front bezel out and the light? I tried pullin and pushing... at this point.

thanks
J.

I would imagine your light disassembles like the one I have. Mine has a retention ring and a trim ring which have to be removed. Both rings are threaded into the forward inside edge of the housing (where your thumb is positioned in your first picture above).

My trim ring was very tight. I used a rubber jar-lid gripper to help get some "traction" and was able to remove it. The retention ring has a few dimples on the facing edge allowing me to use a pointed object to help remove it.

Hope this makes since. Good luck.

I think I would try a long phillips screwdriver and try to pry it out from the wired hole.

that looks like the light i just put on my bike, if its the billet headlight from harley, this is from the instruction sheet for changing bulb.

use 1/16th inch allen wrench to remove outer set screw at bottom of shell

use 3, 1/4 in x 1 in strips of double side tape and place at equal distance around chrome trim ring

(heres where imagination comes in, it says see figure 16, so make believe you see picture of headlight)

now, put finger on tape and remove trim ring counterclockwise and o-ring.

heres where it might suck for you. using service tool, remove inner ring, counter clockwise and o-ring. the tool came with the light when i bought it, its a three fingered spider type tool, with rounded tips. guessing it must fit into the holes on inner ring.

according to my instruction sheet it lists kit numbers 68593-06 and 69851-06 for this light.

good luck

also, directions say that the service tool pt-no is 94950-06

69851-06 is the 4-1/2" bullet headlamp kit

68593-06 is the 5-3/4" bullet headlamp kit

The procedure to replace the lens assembly and the bulb as described by billycouldride is correct. I have added the instruction sheet for both items to the ***H-D instruction sheets database***
