I've searched this forum and the 'net in general and haven't had any luck with this...
I want to put a bottom mount headlight on my FXDL without replacing the trees. How can I do this? I would prefer a chromed billet piece rather than stamped. I think that Headwinds makes a part that does what I need, but their website is sadly light on info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i have been considering this myself. you need something to mount it to, so you could take off the trees and drill and tap the lower one to accept a bolt. but if you are going to have the tress off, you may as well preplace it. i am new to harleys so i am not sure this is the way to do it. just from what i have gathered, it seems you need something to botl to. this will be a winter project for me, so if you can wait 6 months, i let you know what i find out
There appears to be no product currently out that will provide a mounting location without drilling a hole in the lower tree. The hole doesn't need to be tapped but a counterbore on the underside will allow you to hide the head of the mounting bolt. All of the mounts I have seen are already tapped, so it's just a matter of drilling, boring and loctiting the bolt. While I have it apart I will be taking the trees and a few other parts to the plater for a little chrome. Headwinds makes a nice little panel that goes in place of the eyebrow to hold the idiot lights as well.
