hidden ignition switch
Hey guys,
I posted this in the electrical section, but I figure it might get more traffic here.
I've been debating adding a hidden igniton switch via toggle on my 2008 street bob, and I had a few questions about wiring.
The switch I plan on using is this : http://www.westfloridacomponents.com...utomotive.html
I've been looking at my wiring diagrams and figured that if I connect the battery source to the 'power' peg on the toggle, the ignition cable to the 'acc' peg on the toggle, and the ground to a ground, would this work? I also plan on splicing, rather than redirecting because I would want to have the stock ignition switch still work. I also have the understanding that this new hidden switch wouldnt work without the security fob present correct? I wanted to get an opinion or two before I started hacking into wires.
Cheers,
Connor

So would this toggle switch parallel your stock ignition switch? Or would it be in series with your stock switch? Either way, I see no need for the ground leg on the switch, just use a 2-leg switch to act as an interrupter for the ignition circuit.
That's the cheapest way to do it but there are other ways to reach the same end. If you buy a dash mounted ignition and move it to the dash panel it will do the same thing. I unlock mine when I move the bike out of the garage and don't use the key again till I put it back in the garage. The rest of the time it is in my pocket. The security system still functions normally.

I know what your saying, however I'm looking at running it parallel. I want to be able to just flick a switch to turn on the ignition. So basically, adding a hidden toggle switch to act an ignition switch (but still keeping the ignition switch in).
if I run as an interrupter in the series, it would just act as a kill, or an additional safety measure right?

so I decided to jump in and test a few things. Turns out, much easier than I thought. as Pkellymc suggested, a two way toggle switch worked fine. All it took was connecting the battery wire (red) and the ignition wire (red/black) to a toggle switch, run the wire through the frame to where I mounted my toggle switch and its good to go. Works like a charm, and now the keys can stay in my pocket
here is a pic of how it mounts up, looks pretty sweet too. The small mods get me almost excited as the big mods do!
made a vid of its operation on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oJ6xyaC5pQ
cheers
