Question Help Making Performance Decisions

Hi all,
Great forum...huge wealth of info! Here's what I have:

2006 SuperGlide Custom with SE Heavy Breather, Cobra FI2000 O2, SE pipes w/ no baffles

I wish I had the baffles, but they were gone when I bought the bike...lol

I want to begin drawing more torque out of the motor, but can't really afford thousands of dollars right now...who can? What I'm looking at is a new exhaust, cams, and maybe heads...what I need is advice from folks who know.

I'm looking at a 2-1 pipe, or Thunder baffles for my SE's, but I 'm at a loss as far as which 2-1 is best. I know everyone has a favorite, so tell me why it's your favorite. As far as cams, it seems like something that I can do myself (Army mech for 13 years) and it seems like a good bang-for-buck upgrade. Any suggestions? Do I need to wait until I can do the heads also before doing the cams? Which heads are your favorites? Why?

Sorry for the long post...but thanks for reading. I'm sure I'll get some good advice here. My goal isn't to have the fastest HD in town, but I would like to have a well-performing TC88, with my focus on torque, that fits in my budget. Thanks again, all.

Joe

As far as a 2-1 most are going to be pretty close to each other so pick what you like.

I went with the D&D fatcat because I liked the look and the quality of the chrome is very good.

Woods, Andrews and S&S are a few to consider for cams. Another thing to consider is a gear drive for the cams.

Was at a Indy the other day that does alot of motor work. He had a demo set up of the difference between a chain drive and gear dive and I was amazed at the difference.

Some claim an extra 4hp with the gear drive. Nice upgrade when doing cams.

With the weight difference and seeing the ease of it turning when you do it by hand, I could see you get 4HP.

One thing I will say is when I put the cams in my motor they weren't anyway close to that hard to turn as the demo on the counter.

I'm biased but I think the D&D Fatcat is the way to go. Great quality, performance and sound.

Do the cams. You will feel a big difference. I've had Andrews TW37 and TW55. Both great cams. Now I have a Woods cam and it rocks. Also, go gear with the gear drive.

Thanks, guys! After looking hard at cams today, the Andrews seems the most affordable (chic word for CHEAP), at around 350 for chain cams and the 4 degree sprocket, as opposed to almost 900 bones for the Andrews gear drive set-up. Is the extra 4hp worth 550 bucks? I know that's a question that I have to answer myself...lol Thinking about the Andrews 37 and sprocket (~$350), send the heads to VEE TWIN PERF for Stage II porting ($695), and a V&H Pro Pipe (~$550, Blackhawk Customs). That's about $1600 in parts/headwork, not including gaskets, small stuff. SUPPOSEDLY my fuel module can still be adjusted to handle it. Does anyone else have a similar set-up? Are you happy with it? Thanks again, all!
