Shift Pattern for 06 Dynas with 6 speed
I was curious to see where you guys shift at for normal everyday driving and what speed you cruise at in what gears. I don't have a tach, and I am used to a 5 speed trans...and sometimes it seems it sounds like it wants to shift sooner than I'm used to. Like in 4th gear going a50 miles an hr it sounds like it wants to shift to 5th, but I wasn't sure if that would be lugging the engine going 48-50 in 5th. Also going 60 in 5th gear it sounds like it wants to shift to 6th...same deal as the 4th to 5th shift. I saw a post in general where a guy did a dyna trans break down. I can use that to figure this out if someone knows the sweet spot RPM is? Thanks.

Thats what I think the book says as well, but in 5th gear if you dip down to 47 mph is that considered lugging it. Its pretty common to have to drop down a few miles in traffic like from 52 to 47...making sure my ears are still hitting the sweet spot...

I've put a tach on my bike and basically look at it most of the time. For shifting I shift into 3rd at 30, 4th at 40, 5th at 50, and 6th at 60. For every one of those shifts the bike goes to about 2200rpm right after the shift. For the "normal" riding the rpm shift point is around 2800rpm.
As per your question for 5th gear and shifting. I shift to 5th at 50mph and if I stay above 50 it's all good but if you slow down to below 50, say like 47mph, then the rpm drops to around 1900-2000rpm and it's starts to lug so I downshift to 4th. Hard part is that most cagers like to sit in that "no-man's land" area of mph and if you're behind them you find yourself up and down shifting constantly.

Forty to fifty is a killer zone; in traffic 3rd gear, on the road, 4 th gear. I'll use 6 th gear to cruise at 55 but if you need to accelerate yaha gotta shift to 4th or 3rd.

I don't use 6th at all. I'm surprised that they did not gear it down a little bit. A couple teeth more on the rear pulley seems to be in order. 5th is good to over 100, which is about as fast as I want to go before the thing wobbles just a little. Between 70 and 90, 5th is just fine.
