I like black pearl and it's very forgiving as far as dust goes. It contrasts with the frame and chrome very well. It doesn't "pop" at night but I don't really see anything that does except chrome.

If you liked the silver metallic then maybe a two-tone with the silver and black pearl would be good. I wouldn't do a straight line two-tone though. Maybe something like in the attached pic.

My bike is Black Pearl and I don't like it. Swirl marks and scratches don't show as much as in vivid black but it does not look near as good as vivid either. I have a black Harley edition F150 and as long as I start with clean paint and a good quality wax it's not hard to maintain.

I have a vivid black 09 and I wanted to go to a two tone red but so far the estimates
I've been getting have been close to $2,000 which has killed that idea.

What area of the country are you in?

Up until recently, I sold car paint, including custom paints and additives. I did a ton of black sprayouts, as I want to paint my bike black, but I was looking to do something more interesting. In the end, I didn't like anything other than just black with no pearl, no flake, no crushed glass or mirror or anything. I even tried to come up with a good looking black candy.

$800 is an excellent price to shoot your tins.

Shoot the bike in black, and have him shoot a scratch resistant clear on it. Any scratches, dings or swirls you do get, will disappear after a couple hours in the sun.

For a really awesome looking, deep black, have the painter use his darkest black tint, and add 2% violet tint to the mix. For added depth, he can shoot his base, over reduce some of the base (to make it opaque) shoot one or two coats of that (but not more than that - because then it will start to look brown), then two coats of the scratch resistant clear.

Love the look of both but love my black pearl more. It doesn't show hardly anything. I've owned black cages before and, yes, they were a pain. I'm biased, though, my truck is dark gray, my Fat Boy is black pearl, and even my wife's car is a lighter gray. The black pearl looks awesome in direct sunlight, even the local LEOs think so (but I guess that's not a good thing )

+1 on everything that MidnitEvil pointed out... if you are worried about the bling at night, have him add more pearl to the paint. it will have a glow at night then

Lateley I've been thinking black pearl with some sort of orange pinstripe. Not a bright orange, though. You guys rock, thanks for all the input.
