I got some parts powder coated and the guy said they would be semi gloss and they turned out flat so I told him I wamted them clear coated and he said they would not look good so is it possible to put a paint clear on them
Contact forum sponsor/member JRK5892. Him and his company do powder coating. He should be able to answer any questions you may have in reference to powder coating.
I do pc on my own stuff and a few bros. that last thing I would want is word that I did not do the job customer wanted.
I think what is the problem is that he did not want to blast flat off.You can not powder coat clear at a later date well.
I would try to work with him and make all happy and he would get good referrals from you.
yeah it sounds like he used the wrong powder. Powder cannot be fully dry to coat a second time. The guy that does my powder will bake the color for about half the time then apply the clear or a second coat. Also semi gloss has gloss to it. If you wet sand and buff a semi gloss, you can come close to gloss. It should not be flat. Although there are many manufacturers of powder and maybe the company that makes his powder has a flat look to their semi gloss.
that is not all true... you do nt have to hot flock to lay clear, or any other color. it can be shot cold no problem... in fact sometimes it is better to shoot cold, cause when you hot flock you only get one shot, if something happens to land on the part you are screwed and have to start all over again... so in that respect it is sometimes better to shoot 2nd coats clear... hot flocking does shave time though! it is also good for laying decals and designs in the powder. doing semi cure and removing the masking for full cure will get rid of alot of the lines. hell we just did it last night
but that is not the way to go on this... if he is going to redo it there is no point to clear it, just lay gloss on it... that is his fault, if it came out flat it is cause he used a flat powder, or did not propperly cure it... i would not trust it at all... get your $$ back and let us do it right... if he is going to redo it... i would want him to start all over, and have him show you it was blasted. I can not belive that he would return the parts to the customer the wrong color and then make excuses for it... multiple coats can be laid with powder... hell we have done a tank that had 2 coats of primer, 3 chrome and then a clear... that is 6 total coats!!! you could have dropped it off the top floor of a building... you just need to know how to adjust your temps and cure times for it when you start to layer cause it takes longer to hit part metal temp
Well I ended up getting them re powder coated and the guy gave me a super deal because of how the other guy screwed me and he had them ready in one day I will be picking them up on tuesday and let you know how they look Thanks for all the advice
