I did a search and came up with some good info but not exactly what I was looking for. I have a 96 low rider and would like to get a wide glide look. My question is what is the best way to go about it. I know there are a couple of different options such as a triple tree conversion kit and keep the 39mm forks or just replace the entire front end and go with 41mm forks. It seems like the conversion kit would be the easiest way to make sure that everything such as ride height etc is correct. I would like to get bigger forks and it seems like a complete front end from Jireh is about the same price as a conversion kit but I am not familiar with the company or their quality. I want to keep the dual disc so what is the best/most cost effective way to accomplish the conversion?
I got a stock wide glide front end off a 20001 softail custom on ebay pretty cheap that way I could keep my fork lock, but the triple trees and keeping your tubes is a good way to go you figure the wide glide is only 2mm bigger
If you can hang in there till tomorrow I'll post up some pics and info. I also have a '96 Low Rider and I am installing the $329 wide glide conversion from Jireh. I should have it all buttoned up soon. I'll post a few pictures and tell you what I think, but the kit seems pretty simple so far, I'm just waiting on spacers for a tombstome windshield I'm installing off my Shovelhead, otherwise it would be done already. The only thing I don't like so far is I have a black headlight that you don't really notice on the narrow glide, but sticks out like a sore thumb when you widen those trees.
I do not know but this is what I am doing today with a mid glide. It has an Ohlins cartridge system with externally adjustable spring pre-load, rebound & compression. THis is what is on the Spanish race series. When done it will have duel 320 mm rotors (mine) & a pair of Nissin calipers. All will fit on my 2005 Dyna. This is done for riding and handling and not for the looks. I have about 2 1/2 total hours in R&R the forks & changing over the 1" wheel bearings to 25 mm. Ran out of time.
Just finished mine up tonight. The brackets for the windshield are wrong so heres the full, unobstructed view. Jireh Wide Glide Conversion for 39mm forks on a 1996 purple Low Rider.
