Whats this plug for?
I just got a 2002 FXD. I changed the transmission oil and the primary oil. I was having trouble getting to what I thought was the drain plug for the engine oil. Turns out I had the wrong plug. So now I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the plug is for (That I thought was engine oil) that is an Allen head right behind where the kickstand mounts? It faces towards the front of the bike.

Got to confess I was tryng to take this one out to drain the oil before I discovered there was an easier drain plug to get to. That one sits behind a frame crossmember and can be a P in the A to get out.
Not sure what it's purpose is but I suspect it's from an original design for an earlier engine, and to save costs on re-tooling to delete it HD have just left it there and made another in a more accessible place. If you do take it out you'll need to thread seal it when you put it back - according to to manual

If this is in an 08:
a. Most guys were successfule at NAPA. I have been to the Home Depot adapter area also. No joy.
Bring the Plug with you and the Sender with you. NAPA is the place.
b. No teflon tape. I used Loctite white.
c. Sender in the pan is more accurate of the overall oil temp.
I have pics in image-shack but it's not playing well right now. When it does I will post them (im gonna move em all to phot-bucket I think)
Someone else has some really good pics however that I saved. Maybe they will come along.
That aint no joke.
Dont forget to change the color of the light bulb to match:
Take your tank off, easy. The fuel connection is a quick release and there is no cross-over on the 08 model tank.
