With forward controls on my bike i cannot stand up.Could this be a safety concern? I have a fxdc that i put forwards on.If it is i know i could run my mids also but dont really want them on there.Should i be concerned, what do you folks think?
don't see anyreason for concern's people have been running forwards for many many years. Why do you need to stand up you can do that when your stopped. Unless your talking raising off the seat if your about to hit a big pot hole then watch for them closer and you can get off the seat a little with forwards just takes a little getting used to but not like you could with mids.
Perhaps a little more clarification on the statement"with forward controls on my bike I cannot stand up" would be in order. What do you mean, you can't stand up? Stand up on the pegs?... no need to.
I can stand up on my forwards. It's not as easy as mids, but the only time I stood was for rail road tracks if I'm haulen!! Only twice I can remember! It takes some upper body strength, but if you time it right you'll do fine. It's not like you're going to stand up half a block before the tracks. Pot holes I just watch for. Generally if you don't see a pot hole it's to late to stand up even if you had mids otherwise swerve around it. No safety concern of mine.
It can be done but takes some practice and +1 on the upper body strength/balance. As a matter of fact, every time I take the MSF courses (thank you Uncle Sam and your damn safety nannies) the instructors say to just take the obstacle (debris/pot hole/whatever) head on and bike straight up and down.
Standing up on the pegs is what would be the safety concern. Dude, I broke a peg mount bolt off just snugging it up one day with a wrench and I wasn't even tugging on it very hard. You never know when you might have a bolt with a hairline crack in it or something like that. When I was a kid, I found out first hand what can happen when a peg, or in my case a bike pedal, brakes off when you are putting your weight on it while moving down the road at speed. If you can see a pot hole or bump in time to stand up, you see it in time to avoid it altogether.
