Won't handle what? You need to be more specific when discussing handling...
You're right. By being too brief I failed to convey the extreme example (very long forks & skinny front tire--vintage chopper) I had in mind, to make a point. And again w/ handling, I had in mind twisties, but failed to elaborate, thinking (meaning) "quickness", not stability, which seems quite the opposite of handling, despite being such an integral part of it. My apologies.
[quote=SC-Longhair;5965159]Most would say the FXR was THE best handling dyna.
Totally agree. The FXR WAS the best handling Dyna. My friend has a 91 FXR and I love it when we go riding and trade bikes. I wish they would come out with a new FXR, I'd buy it in a heart beat. I'd say the Street Bob is a damn good handling bike. I've ridden a Super Glide and they handle great as well. Never ridden a Fat Bob so I can't comment on them...
But for 99 percent of riders out there who never come close to scraping their pegs, the fat front tire, lower center of gravity and short rake of the Fat Bob will give a great combination of confidence inspiring stability and willingness to drop into a turn and still hold the line with ease in everyday real world riding situations turn after turn.
You don't really have to think or even try to ride the Fat Bob hard....it just sort of does it on it's own.
Yes, thats very true and very well put. But the O/P's original question was simply whats the best handling Dyna. No bike with a giant 16 inch steam roller meatball will ever handle as well as the same bike with a lighter, smaller, narrower front wheel and tire. I shall defer to whats called the Hayabusa defense: The day I see one of those fat meatballs rolling on the front of a Hayabusa, is the day I believe it handles better than a smaller lighter front tire. Don't get me wrong, those big tires look very nice, ride well and are pretty cool. But if your arguing about the best handling brand new Dyna's, Superglides with 19 inch tires, short handlebars and mid controls simply rule the roost.

Yes we do...but Dyna's ain't sportbikes by a long shot!
Feeling secure with a fat front tire by no means equal best handling. I don't have any proof here. But given the numbers when comparing a Fat to a Super Glide...almost everything about the Superglide says it should win the "handling" contest hands down. Matter of fact, I bet if the same professional (or experienced rider) rode them both on a closed course that he'd pull off a better time on a Super Glide.
Disclaimer: But of course this is the answer to the question no one's really asking. So I don't think we'll get any actual proof any time soon.

Of the HD models, I've ridden only Sportster, Softail Springer, Low Rider & Super Glide, so can't compare handling of other models, except in a scientific way. I really enjoyed the Sportster's handling, but needed more long-range comfort & capacity, so bought the new '89 Low Rider Sport Convertible & now the '09 Super Glide Custom, which seems to have a big "Sportster" feel. Even the small front fender resembles the Sportster.
As far as Dyna's not being sport bikes, within the HD big-twin lineup (heavy cruiser), Dyna's are sport bikes, compared to other Harley's. :~)
After reading all the post to up to here. Everyone is going to have a opinon. No one wants to believe they made the wrong choice.I've ridden all of the new models at 1 time or the other this past year.
Fat Bobs and Super glide customs seem to fair the best. That being said. all riders are at a diffrent skill level. A very experienced rider that is familar with his bike and a novice with the best "handling" bike with all the upgrades is going to get his a$$ handed to him by the experienced guy.
So in conclusion the best handling Dyna is the one you are most familar with.
