Ive been around harleys for the past 12 years, most recently I had a very nicely build street glide. I had the opportunity to pick up a near perfect 02 fxdx with a nice 95' build and otherwise completely stock. I will miss the bags and radio but enjoy the handling of the dyna. I have a bunch of parts on order so the build will be starting soon
- Front 1/4 fairing
- 4 inch risers for stock bars
- Thunderheader
- floating rotors
- Steering stabilizer
- fork brace
- PM grips
- Avon Venom tires
Ill probably do the ohlins first and see how the bike handles. I had a missing link on my street glide and honestly did not feel a difference and I pushed the bike on a regular basis
I don't think a tru trac will work with that year of Dyna . The motor & tranny is mounted completely different and thus not needing a chassis brace . Plus I think that the FXDX has four motor mounts as opposed three that regular Dynas have , and it really aides in stability .

I am also powder coating the wheels, forks, and triple trees all gloss black. Ill grab some pictures when it is all done
Good luck with that great bike. I looked and looked and couldn't find one just right, So I got a great deal on my buds 01 fxd which I am slowly making it "modern" and fun to ride.

I have always kept my eye out for one as well, this deal landed on my lap and the price couldnt be beat. I would swear this bike has never seen rain it is so clean. Someday ill get another bagger but honestly they arent nearly as fun to ride.
Congrats on getting a clean example of what some consider the best bike AND year of the big twins, especially as far as handling and performance potential. 02 is the last year for the timkin in the motor and in reality the ONLY difference between the FXDX/T's and same year FXD's is the suspension/brakes...frames, rake and engine mounts are the same. I've had an 01 FXD and a 01 FXDXT both completly apart, as well I have the service and parts manuals for 01 and access to all HD service and parts manuals...Canada's HD mechanics are trained about a mile from my house and I know the instructors very well. Anyhow; you'll have some fun and be able to spend as much money as you would on any other model in HD's lineup...just on different parts. How about some pics, eh???
I think I am very luck to have found a very nice example with a great history on the bike. There are not many of these around and I plan to keep it in showroom condition going forward. As of now it is up on a lift tucked in a corner awaiting a pile of parts to show up. Then the tear down will begin.
